Victims in deadly triple shooting identified

The victims involved in Friday night's deadly triple shooting have been identified.

JPD Commander Tyree Jones identified the deceased as 30-year-old William Potts, who was shot in the chest.

Jones said 22-year-old Bobby Potts was also shot in the chest and is in critical condition.

The third victim, 26-year-old Paul Staples, was shot in the foot and he's listed in stable condition.

Commander Jones said around 11:35 p.m. Friday, officers responded to Merit Health, where the men went for treatment.

We're told the shooting possibly occurred in the area of University Blvd., near Cherry Street.

Jones said the Lexus SUV, the victims were driving, was approached by at least four males inside a maroon vehicle.

Commander Jones said the men inside the vehicle fired shots striking the SUV several times, also striking the victims. The vehicle could possibly be a Pontiac.

Jones said the driver of the SUV, Staples, fled the scene to seek medical attention.

The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time.

Jones said no additional suspect information is available.
