Bomb scare cleared in downtown Jackson

All is clear in downtown Jackson after a call came through Wednesday morning about a bomb threat or a suspicious package at the Hinds County Circuit courthouse.

Employees who work inside the courthouse and the Hinds County Chancery Court were evacuated for about two hours. During the evacuation several streets throughout downtown Jackson were blocked off.

The Hinds County Sheriff's Department is leading the investigation into the threat. JPD's bomb squad was called in to help with the search.

"From what I understand they did a very thorough search," said JPD Commander Tyree Jones. "There were some dogs that came in as well from other jurisdictions that assisted in this effort and again we have rendered both scenes safe at this time."

The bomb scare was cleared just before noon.
