VICKSBURG, MS (WLBT) -

There are four points on the Miss Mississippi crown.

They represent style, service, scholarship and success. The Miss Mississippi contestants say participating in the pageant has helped them develop those qualities and fulfill dreams to make a difference in the lives of others.

The volunteer work of the contestants is recognized through Quality of Life scholarships.

Miss Mississippi 2015, Hannah Roberts, was a Quality of Life finalist at Miss America for her platform, Pages of Love, which has donated more than 42 thousand books to shelters, clinics, hospitals and schools. Each of the 44 contestants say it is important to remember what the Miss Mississippi crown represents.

"My platform is Breast Cancer Awareness and I chose it because not only is my mother a 13 year survivor, now of breast cancer, but I had a double mastectomy two years ago this week," said Molly May, Miss Amory.

"A few years ago I lost a classmate to texting and driving," said Carol Coker, Miss University. "She and her sister were on a shopping trip and her sister chose to text and drive."

Some of the contestants have chosen their platforms because of personal experience. Others because they see a need and want to make a difference.

"I just want to spread the message and hopefully get people prepared out there cause severe weather does not discriminate whether you're rich, poor, Black or White," said Jessica Swindle, Miss All American City. "It can happen to anyone at any time and we need to get folks prepared."

"My platform is called Shining a Light on Life and it’s for suicide prevention and awareness," said Michaela Moore, Miss Riverland.

Several of the contestants have published books and others have spent hours volunteering with various groups. They all hope to shine a light on the issues they believe in on the state level and possibly nationally as the next Miss America.
