RANKIN COUNTY, MS (WLBT) -

A teen, charged as an adult after stabbing another teen multiple times over a girl, was in court for an initial appearance Tuesday morning.

17-year-old Cale Evan Reaves was let out of jail on a $10,000 bond.

Judge Kent McDaniel ordered Reaves to have no contact with the teen he stabbed or the girl involved.

He also has to go through an anger management course.

His attorney says Reaves doesn't have a prior criminal record and was defending himself during the fight.

"I think it was an altercation that went bad," says Reaves' attorney Brent Brumbly. "I believe that he certainly felt that he was going to be harmed by this individual and acted in self defense."

A preliminary hearing has been set for Tuesday, June 28th at 9:00 a.m.
