Rain or shine, nothing stops the annual Miss Mississippi Parade of contestants in downtown Vicksburg.
This year, on the first day of summer, the contestants were all smiles as they battled the heat.
Being in the spotlight is nothing new for the Miss Mississippi contestants. They have also mastered staying cool under pressure and on a hot night in the River City. With a Magnolia prince or princess also taking the ride, contestants greeted family members, friends and supporters of the pageant.
The parade is the first big event of pageant week in downtown Vicksburg. The first group of 15 contestants had judges interviews Monday morning.
The contestants will receive scores in four areas; judges interview, talent, evening wear, on stage question, and swimsuit. Fans of the pageant can also participate. You can vote for your favorite contestant to win the People's Choice Award on the Miss Mississippi website.
Contestants will be back on the stage at the Vicksburg Convention Center Wednesday night for the first round of preliminary competition. Winners will be announced in swimsuit and talent.
For now, the contestants are hoping they will end up wearing the crown of Miss Mississippi 2016.
Hannah Roberts will pass on the torch to the new state representative Saturday night.
