VICKSBURG, MS (WLBT) -

There is new information on a murder/suicide investigation in Vicksburg.

Deputy Coroner Kelda Bailess said 35-year-old Surrenda Davis Vaughn and 46-year-old Edward Vaughn were found dead in their home on Lakeside Drive, on Saturday.

A family member found the two and call police.

Family and friends say that Surrenda Davis Vaughn was a popular school teacher in the Vicksburg Warren School District and a loving wife

They say that Edward Vaughn was devoted father.

“My heart bleeds,” said Charles Davis, Surrenda's father.

Davis fought back tears as he talked about his daughter, and he said hearing that his "baby girl" was killed was the worst news a dad could receive on Father's Day.

“It was something you was hoping wasn't true and the same time, it was," said Davis. "I was on the road when my grandson called me and told me, and he was kind of hysterical and I didn’t really understand everything he said. I didn’t want to believe it.”

According to Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace, the murder/suicide happened Saturday night at the couple's home.

Investigators believe Edward Vaughn shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself.

“It appears the female was the victim of the homicide, and it appears the male died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” said Pace.

“My dad. I don't know what made him do what he did, but he was a good person,” said Princess Promise, daughter of Edward Vaughn.

While the motive is still a mystery, one of Vaughn’s daughters and loved ones said that they didn't see this coming, because the couple had been married for at least 10 years.

“They had their differences, every couple has their differences, every marriage has their struggle but they always worked through it," said Promise. "They always overcame everything, and I don't know what went wrong this time,” said Promise.

Davis' father is wondering the same thing, but he admits there were signs of trouble recently.

“She called about two weeks ago and told me she wanted to move back home and that they were going to split up" Davis said. "I tried to find out what the problem was and she wouldn’t tell me.”
