PEARL (MississippiBraves.com) - Mississippi Braves RHP Chris Ellis has been promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett from Double-A Mississippi. In corresponding moves, RHP Lucas Sims has been transferred to Double-A Mississippi from Gwinnett.
Ellis, an Ole Miss alumnus, was 8-2 with a 2.75 ERA in 13 starts for the M-Braves this season. He ranks eighth among Southern League Leaders in ERA and leads the league in wins.
Ellis is 5-1 with a 1.21 ERA in seven games at Trustmark Park. Opponents are hitting .201 against the Braves No. 15 prospect. Ellis was named Mississippi Pitcher of the Month (April) by the Braves organization after making five starts, posting a record of 3-0 with a 1.84 ERA. Ellis held opponents to a .192 batting average in those five contests. The Alabama native was acquired by the Braves along with Erick Aybar, Sean Newcomb and cash from the LA Angels in exchange for Andrelton Simmons and Jose Briceno on November 12, 2015.
Sims, 21, was 0-2 but had a 1.84 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 14.2 innings with the Double-A Braves before being promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett on April 23. Since joining the G-Braves, Sims is 2-6 with a 7.56 ERA in 11 games, 10 starts. He's struck out 58 in 50 innings. He ranks tied for fifth among all Minor League pitchers with 84 strikeouts on the season-just 64.2 IP. A native of Lawrenceville, GA, Sims was selected by the Braves in the first round of the 2012 draft.
