Madison drivers can prepare for an upcoming road closure and road work along Old Canton Road.
On Monday morning crews started preparing by working on a gas line at Old Canton Road and Saint Augustine Drive.
Later in the week Old Canton Road between Saint Augustine Drive and Avonlea Lane will be blocked off to traffic.
Madison's Public Works Director, Chad Wages says that portion of Old Canton Road could be closed for the next four to six months.
The closure is part of an overall road improvement project on Old Canton Road.
A third lane will be added between Hoy Road and Saint Augustine Drive.
"I think it is going to be great, actually my husband travels this road every night, he's a Nissan employee so he actually travels this way every single night, but I think it is going to be great expansion especially with the school being right here and it is going to help cut down on traffic," says Kiara Whitsett, a Jackson resident who is moving to Madison.
Drivers should consider using Highway 51 or Rice Road while Old Canton Road is closed between Avonlea Lane and Saint Augustine Drive.
The road expansion is expected to be complete by next June.
