MHP officials say a man was killed in a Saturday accident on Highway 27.

MHP Corporal Eric Henry said 68-year-old William Alexander of Sheridan, Arkansas died at the scene of the accident.

Alexander's wife and daughter were also in the car.

Henry said Alexander's wife is in critical, but stable condition at UMMC and his daughter is in stable condition.

Officials say one was taken by air care, and the other was taken by ambulance.

MHP was called to the scene of the two vehicle accident on Highway 27, north of the Natchez Trace in Hinds County.

According to Henry, an 18-wheeler was traveling south on Highway 27, when a car turned out in front of the 18-wheeler's lane of travel.

The 18-wheeler tried to avoid hitting the vehicle and swerved into the northbound lane hitting  Alexander's Suburban head on. The family was traveling north on MS 27.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was transported to UMMC with injuries.
