Jackson to host 1st annual LGBT pride parade

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) -

Jackson will host it's first annual LGBT pride parade on Sunday, June 11 at 12:00 noon. The parade will begin at Memorial Stadium, following the same route as the Zippity Doo Dah parade, and finish back at Memorial Stadium. 

Line up for the parade will begin at 9:00 a.m. 

There will be a festival at Fondren Park following the parade, It goes from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

From 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Mississippi author, Cindy Eldridge, and Jackson-based BRICE Media will be interviewing LGBT families and community allies, at Cambell's Bakery in Fondren, for her upcoming book, "This is our Mississippi". 

Eldridge's book will feature short stories and pictures of Mississippi LGBT families and allies to the community.

Proceeds from the sale of the book will go towards Mike's House, Mississippi's first LGBT youth shelter.

Mike's House is the ongoing effort of Rise Above for Youth, a non-profit organization, based in Jackson.  

The shelter was intentionally set on fire in October of 2015.
