Southern Miss falls to South Alabama, 7-5

A six-run sixth inning allowed South Alabama to stay alive in the NCAA Tournament's Tallahassee Regional as it ousted Southern Mississippi 7-5 on Sunday.

The Jaguars (42-21) trailed 4-0 going into the sixth before they rallied. Cole Billingsley had the game-winning hit with a two out, two-run single.

Brendan Donovan added two hits and Ryne Long got the win in long relief. The senior right-hander (4-0) allowed two runs on three hits in 4 2/3 innings.

South Alabama must defeat Florida State twice, including Sunday night, if it hopes to advance to the Super Regional.

Nick Dawson had three hits, Jeremy Sandlin homered and Daniel Keating added two hits with two RBIs for Southern Mississippi. Jake Winston (7-2) got the loss, allowing three runs and two hits in one-third of an inning.

The Golden Eagles, who end their season 41-20, beat South Alabama 14-2 on Friday before losing their next two.
