BYRAM, MS (WLBT) -

There is new information in the case of a Byram home burglary where a teenager shot and killed an intruder.

Byram police arrested Brandon Smith and charged him in the shooting death of 18-year-old Cameron Jackson.

The shooting happened on June 1. Police arrested Smith one month ago.

Smith is charged with capital murder following an alleged burglary he was involved in at the Byram home.

Police have arrested 18-year-old Samuel Reed, of Terry, for capital murder in the death of Jackson.

Just after 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Byram officers responded to a home on Kaybrook Drive for a burglary in progress.

In the house, officers found three people: the resident of the home, a visitor identified as Reed and Jackson, who was shot and killed.

Police believed Jackson to be an intruder.

Police believe that Reed had been inside the home before the burglary and shooting happened. It is believed that Reed had worked with Jackson to rob the home.

When Jackson entered the home, the resident retrieved a firearm and shot and killed 18-year-old Cameron Jackson.

Reed is in the Hinds County Jail.
