Pearl Police say that a woman may have acted in self-defense when she shot her husband in the head Tuesday morning at the Southern Gardens Mobile Home Park.

She has not yet been charged and the case will be presented to the Rankin County District Attorney's office for their official review. She was released following comprehensive questioning.

According to family members, the police told them 25-year-old Justin Jenkins was arguing with his wife when she shot him in the head.

"It's a sad, sad loss. I'm going to miss my cousin," said Antonio Jenkins after being told his cousin, Justin, was shot and killed. "Justin, he didn't deserve that because he was a genuinely good guy, giving, generous, loving."

Pearl Police say Jenkins' wife called 911 and told them that she had shot her husband.

When the police got to the scene, they found him dead with a single gunshot wound to the head.

"We do understand there was a disturbance throughout the night and into the morning hours," said a Pearl police spokesman. "There might have been some conflict between the two of them and that may have culminated."

The wife was taken in custody for questioning and later released because police believe that she acted in self defense.

"We was all together this weekend and everything was good," said Antonio Jenkins. "I didn't see any sign of any discord or anything like that at the moment.  When I woke up and found the news out it was complete shock."

A 3-year-old was also in the home during the shooting but was not injured and has been taken by Child Protective Services.
