Skeletal remains found in south Jackson almost two weeks ago have been identified as a missing Simpson County man. William Donald McGrew disappeared on September 16, 2015. His sister says he was going to sell his truck and never returned home.

During the follow-up investigation and reviewing of missing persons files, it was learned that William Donald McGrew was reported missing on September 14, 2015. He was last seen in the area of McCluer Rd. near Boozer St. which is in close proximity of where the remains were discovered.

According to the report, McGrew went to this area to sell his truck to someone but he never returned to his Simpson County home.

McGrew was the father of 21-year-old Austin McGrew. He and Christopher Blackwell were arrested in Braxton in November after an exchange of gunfire with a Simpson County Deputy.

Hinds County coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart says DNA confirmed the identity. The remains were found May 15 at 429 McCluer Road near Forest Lake Drive.

JPD Commander Tyree Jones said the human remains were found in a wooded area by citizens searching for a lost dog. Investigators say the remains could have been out there for months.
