JACKSON, MS (WLBT) -

31-year old Christopher Bennett was in Hinds County Court on Monday. Bennett is being charged with killing Chivas McElveen during an apparent robbery on May 9th in Jackson.

According to a witness, Bennett shot McElveen several times after the victim plead for his life. McElveen died at the scene.

According to the DEA, charges were already pending against Bennett in Madison County.

Testifying on Bennett's behalf was Travis Grimes, who was also shot twice that same night on Northtown Rd.

Grimes says two people stormed into his apartment and started shooting. Bennett was not one of the shooters he says.

Judge Priester bounds Bennett over to the Grand Jury and orders no bond saying "he's a danger to the public"
