In what used to be a used car dealership, Rich Grain Distillery has set up shop in Canton; one of three craft alcohol distilleries now operating in the state of Mississippi.
"Customers want more locally made products, want to know where their food and beverages are made and care about the craft approach," said owner David Rich. "That's what we do here. We make everything in house from scratch."
Rich custom built his copper still using skills he learned in his previous career of mechanical engineering. It's going to take more than a year for the whiskeys in these barrels to age before they're ready for sippin', but some of their product is already in stores.
"The flagship product will eventually be rich grain distillery company bourbon whiskey," added Rich. "Right now to start to help pay the bills, I'm selling some unaged products. The first product I have right now is available in some stores today is a unaged corn whiskey."
The distillery also has an entertaining space, and tasting room that they rent out for parties. They will begin tours of facility on Saturdays starting at the end of the month.
"We want our customers to come take a full distillery tour, learn how all the products are made," said Rich. "Touch, taste, feel everything, sample the products, and want it to be a tourist experience and be a draw to bring people to Canton."
