Initiative 42 hearings begin Tuesday

Mississippi voters are invited to attend a series of hearings for education funding ballot initiatives 42 and 42A.  Ballot initiative 42 would require the legislature to fully fund the formula know as MAEP or Mississippi Adequate Education Program.  Lawmakers passed a ballot alternative, Initiative 42-A.

The first hearing will be held Tuesday, August 11 at 5:30 pm in the JSU e-Center in Jackson. State law requires The Secretary of State’s Office to hold at least one hearing in each of the old five Congressional districts.

“Our Agency wants to give as many Mississippians as possible the opportunity to attend one of the initiative hearings," said Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann. "We have scheduled more hearings than required in geographically proportionate areas across the State to grant more access to our citizens to have a voice in this process.”

Initiative Measure 42 and Alternative Measure 42A will appear on the ballot for the November 3, 2015 General Election.
