LIFESAVERS offers free health screenings

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) -

Tougaloo Park was the place to be Saturday for free health checks.

The LIFESAVERS project returned from 9:00 a.m. to noon to raise awareness about healthy living and the dangers of tobacco use.

The event offered AIDS screening information and free blood pressure and glucose screenings.  Other agencies offered workshops and information on improving the quality of life.

The event is sponsored by Innovative Behavioral Services Incorporated.

"The community needs to know why we're out here, because if you go into your doctor's office it may be a fee that you have to pay. If you come out here you may be able to save yourself a few dollars on your screening," said project director Jacqueline Carter."

This is the 12th year the LIFESAVERS program has been held.
