BYRAM, MS (WLBT) -

A recent water main break in Byram has left residents seething over the brown water coming from their taps.

Lisa Proffer lives in the Lake Ridgelea Subdivision and she took pictures of the discolored oily water flowing from her faucets.

Her home is near Tuesday's water line break at the intersection of Siwell and Terry Roads.

Proffer said she is forced to buy bottled water and gallons more for bathing.

She contacted the City of Jackson and was told she would not be receiving a credit.

The Byram resident is also upset because she said their water sewer rates rose 60% last year.

She went to the Byram's Facebook page and said there is no information about the water and nothing on a boil water notice.

"Brown water with oil in it. Brown water with black specks in it and it's not every day. You can go a month and then you'll experience a week of brown water ,but the fact is you're pay for something you can't use and you're not gonna use and you won't use," said Proffer.

Byram's Public works director Cohn Livingston said the most recent boil water notice was lifted Friday.

He said the discolored water problem may be due to another water line break near the last one that crews will be working on Monday.
