JPD officers honored during appreciation day

Giving thanks to those who protect and serve: that was the theme to an Officer Appreciation Day held in Jackson Saturday.

JPD's Precinct Two command staff, as well as community and church leaders, did their part to thank officers in that precinct for their hard work and dedication.

Cmdr. Jarratt Taylor said this event also helps keep the relationship between the officers and the community close.

Taylor said what they're doing in the fight against crime is working.

"Chief Vance gave me the autonomy to come up with a plan implemented in January that's unique to this area, and it's been able to cut crime tremendously," Taylor said. "We have had 315 less victims than we had this time last year."

Taylor adds that this strategy is now being implemented in the city's three other precincts as well.
