CANTON, MS (WLBT) -

After two fires in less than one month, a Canton childcare center has been destroyed.

LaRicky Robinson, owner of Foundation Academy, said the first fire was on July 14.

Robinson said the facility, located at 518 East North Street, is now a total loss.

The facility was set to reopen on August 10th.

Foul play is suspected, but officials have not confirmed this.

"A cylinder block was thrown through the window during the first fire and I noticed the electrical meter, which would have signaled the fire department, was not on the building, after this fire," Robinson said.

"It's very sad and sickening to think someone would do this to a childcare center," Robinson added.

"We're trying to give back to the community and educate the young children," Robinson said.

Robinson said the second anniversary of the facility's opening would have been (today) Saturday.

"(To rebuild) is in the future. We may try again. This is God's plan, it's my calling. This is just a set back," Robinson added.

We reached out to Canton Fire Investigator Joe Davis and he tells us it's under investigation.
Davis also says the state fire marshal is being brought in to investigate.
