YAZOO COUNTY, MS (WLBT) -

Parts of Wolf lake, in Yazoo County, are experiencing unheard of flooding for this time of year. Water levels are over four feet higher than normal in some places.

So why is this happening? Experts say it's because of the Mississippi River. It's currently at levels usually experienced in the spring due to heavy rains and snow melt.

That water is now causing the Yazoo River to back up into Wolf Lake. Right now the water has flooded some roads, making them impassible on the west side of the lake. A handful of businesses and homes are only accessible by boat.

"I'm astounded it's as high as it is," said Noel Guthrie, who owns a cabin on the lake.  I never thought it would be this high. We though after spring the water would go down for the rest of the summer. This is as high as I've ever seen it this time of year."

The good news is the Corp Of Engineers says the water levels will begin to steadily go down in coming days. e Mississippi River crest on the 27th at 45.93 feet.
