It was one in the morning when a homeowner on Twin Oaks Drive in Clinton heard their minivan door slam. Nobody was supposed to be in the car at that time of morning.

"My husband saw 3 men running away from our house, he yelled at them and once he yelled at them, they opened fire on us," said Janna White.

Janna says the car burglars fired four shots at her husband.  One hitting the side of the van they were breaking into.  The other shots into their home, one into the corner of their bedroom window.

Just a handful of change was taken by the burglars. Police say there were no other reports of car break-ins in the area.

"We did recover some evidence, shell casings," said Police Chief Mike Warren. Course we'll send that to the crime lab and let them run those through their database and see if that comes up with anything."

Janna White has two small children.  She's just thankful nobody was hurt.

"They're criminals. That's considered attempted murder even if they are blindly shooting, it could have grazed anybody," said White.  "It could have been anybody in this neighborhood even our kids. They just need to be taken off the streets."

The burglary is very similar to a burglar that occurred last week in Ridgeland. Shots were fired at another homeowner who startled three car burglars there also.

Evidence from the cases have been sent to the state crime lab and the two police departments plan to compare notes once that's done.
