JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Beatty Street Grocery was in good company for its 75th anniversary celebration. Large crowds of diners visited the corner grocery over the course of mid-day. Beatty street offered 75-cent sliders and five dollar deals on Beatty burgers, fries and a drink.

The anniversary celebration attracted both established and new customers, who didn't know the downtown jewel existed.

"I got a Beatty Street burger because if you don't, you are kind of missing the point," said first time diner Hunter McGee. "We got a bunch of sliders and the onion rings. They got the onion rings right. A lot of people don't get it right. They got it right."

Mary Harden, who now runs the restaurant her grandfather bought in 1940, said she was elated to have so many people for the celebration.

"I really appreciate it," she said. "People are coming out and ordering the sliders, 25 at a time."

People were walking out of here with boxes of food. That's true but my ladies are moving as quickly as they can.

People were taking volumes of food out of Beatty Street in boxes, many of them to feed entire offices.

Beatty Street Grocery is open 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Saturday.
