JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - He's called the Iron Cowboy, but his real name is James Lawrence. He's from Lindon, Utah, but he's found out quickly, the southern heat is harsh.
"It's legit, that's for sure," said Lawrence.
Lawrence is in Mississippi after a rather eventful fall in Chattanooga Tennessee Tuesday.
"When I get settled in on my bike, it literally takes one second and I can be asleep," said Lawrence.. "So I fell asleep, we hit the turf and we're dealing with some issues today because of it."
Lawrence will be doing 50 Iron Man triathlons in 50 states, in 50 days. It's all to raise awareness of childhood obesity.
"It's just a real in-your-face problem," he said. "We've partnered with the Jamie Oliver Foundation and we are trying to raise money and awareness."
Once Lawrence finishes up in Mississippi he'll head to the Gulf Coast. His first stop is Alabama. The second stop is the Panhandle of Florida on Friday.
