Missing 68-year-old man found shot to death

PIKE COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - A missing persons case has turned into a murder case in Pike County, and investigators are hunting down clues to find the killer.

Leroy McCray's body was found 40 yards from his burned out minivan. The vehicle was spotted last night in Osyka near the Louisiana line, miles from his home near Magnolia.

The coroner said the 68 year old was shot at least once, possibly several times.

Friends and neighbors were hard pressed for words in the Gradyville community where McCray lived.

"Oh yes that's a tragedy, said James Lewis. "It's hard to believe, Leroy out of all people."

Lewis stays 2 doors down from the victims' house on Gradyville road. He described McCray as a kind, charitable man.

" Oh he was a very nice guy. One of the best guys," added Lewis. "Wash peoples cars for them, cut the grass for them. What ever he could do for you he would do."

The inside of the silver 1997 Chevrolet minivan was torched. It had been set on fire according to the Coroner.

Percy Pittman said there was so much damage, it was impossible to tell if there was blood in the vehicle. The car has been sent to the Crime Lab in Jackson. An autopsy will be performed.

Pike County investigators are developing their case and not revealing all the details of the murder. If you have any information call the Pike County Sheriff's office or Crimestoppers.
