Tornado-ravaged auction house reopens in Pearl

PEARL, MS (WLBT) - An auction house in Pearl shows no signs of the devastation wrought by a tornado outbreak last April.

It was back to business Tuesday morning at Mid-South Auction on Old Whitfield Road, with about 800 vehicles going to the highest bidders.

The business was badly damaged by a tornado on April 28, forcing it to operate out of a tent until the building could be repaired.

Mid-South Auction was one of many businesses damaged or destroyed when tornadoes touched down in several Mississippi counties.

Governor Phil Bryant was on hand Tuesday as a ribbon was cut to complete this latest recovery.

"It cost us $1.3 million to repair the damages that we had here," said Mid-South general manager Tim Brantley. "We put a few little extra dollars in for some niceties and so forth, but it was quite an expensive venture for us."

Now that it is back up and running, Mid-South Auction sells about 500 cars to dealers every Tuesday morning. It sells to the public about once a month.
