Don't lock your keys in your car in Brandon

Police in Brandon say they're through helping motorists who lock their keys in their car or have a dead battery.

With some exceptions they'll now notify a locksmith or a service provider to 'pop your lock' or 'jump your car.'

The city released a statement saying this is the reason: "Because of enhanced door construction, thinner windows, side airbags, plastic interior door components and sophisticated electronic systems, our ability to enter a vehicle using a simple tool no longer exists.

Damage can also occur jumping off some of the newer vehicles which are equipped with delicate computer and electronic systems."

They will make an exception if a child is locked in a car, or an animal is locked in a hot car.
