JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A 69-year-old woman remains in fair condition after being shot during an armed robbery on Euclid Avenue Wednesday night.

"To know something could happen that fast, that quickly in such a nice area, in such a quiet area, especially if she was targeted in a way, it's very worrisome," said neighbor Chris Gipson. Gipson

lives on Montbrook Drive, not far from the victim, whom police have yet to identify. Gipson said he knows the woman, whose first name is Carolyn.

The night of the shooting, a friend, Connor McAllister, told us Carolyn had come over to his house in Belhaven.

McAllister believes Carolyn was targeted by the suspects because she drove an expensive car, a silver Mercedes.

"We live on a very quiet street with very limited activity," said Gipson. "And with my wife driving a similar car, and she does spend a lot of time driving alone, now, it kinda, it worries me a little bit."

Investigators said two male suspects approached the victim while she was taking out the trash, robbing her first, then firing.

McAllister said he heard two shots.

"It appears that robbery was the motive," said Jackson Police Chief Lee Vance. "They took her purse, and once they took her purse, they shot her, and left in what we believe to be a maroon vehicle."

Since the shooting, a JPD patrol car has kept watch outside her gated home on Montbrook.

"We've seen a couple of police cars, and a police car here overnight, but other than that, it's been relatively quiet," said Gipson.

After the robbery, a gunman shot her in the hand and stomach. It's not clear whether Carolyn put up any resistance against them.

"You should always put personal safety over property, but at the same time, it was her purse, said Vance. "You know, what we want to do is hold the people accountable, and that's the individuals who robbed and shot her." Vance said.

McAllister said Carolyn is in fair condition.

Police said the two suspects left in what's believed to be a maroon Chevy Impala.
