COLUMBIA, MS (WLBT) -

WLBT is working with our sister stations across the state to help raise money for families whose lives were torn apart when a massive tornado swept through Marion and Jones Counties two days before Christmas.

And YOU can help!

Life is slowly, but surely getting back to normal in Columbia.

Schools are open, state roads are back up, along with some businesses and volunteers are working around the clock to clean up debris. But lots of money is still needed to help families pick up the pieces.

State officials are waiting to hear back from President Obama regarding a federal disaster declaration.

The tornado that tore through the area on December 23 took 5 lives, injured dozens of people, flattened homes, trampled businesses and changed lives forever.

Because of the widespread damage we're asking for anyone who is able to, to please donate whatever you can to help the most vulnerable tornado victims.

The money will go towards the Columbia Strong Fund and the Pine Belt Community Disaster Fund.

If you can help financially please call the Mississippi Tornado Relief toll free number at 1-844-281-5609.

Volunteers are in the WDAM studio until 11 pm to take your calls.
