MADISON COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - A Florence woman will spend 20 years behind bars in connection with what sources say is one of the largest embezzlement cases in Madison County's history.

Madison County Judge Bill Chapman sentenced Kelly Doss to 20 years in prison and ordered her to pay back $618,000 dollars in restitution for the money she embezzled from a Ridgeland company called Personnel Plus.

"She had no prior felonies, she was a first time offender," said Madison County District Attorney Michael Guest. "This was something that had been going on for a period of time as in a large number of embezzlements, it began quite small, then quickly escalated to where over an extended period of time roughly a 5 year period of time she was able to take an amount in excess of 600 thousand dollars."

Don Taylor, owner of Personnel Plus in Ridgeland says he first noticed the missing funds back in early 2013.

The company hired a forensic auditor who discovered money transfers from the business account, directly in to Doss's.

"It did not impact our business or our clients however from my personal perspective, I'm looking at having to work another 5-7 years before I can realistically look at retirement because that's money I was counting on for my retirement," said Taylor. "That was earned over 28 years."

Doss is currently in the Madison County Detention Center.
