JSU Lady Tigers open SWAC play with win over Alabama A&M
HUNTSVILLE, AL (JSUTigers.com) - Dominique Brothern had 19 points and three steals, Alisa Ross scored 12 points as the Jackson State women's basketball team beat the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs 74-72 in the opening game of Southwestern Athletic Conference play on Saturday. Brothern helped seal the game for the Lady Tigers, making five straight free throws to close out the game.
Brothern shot a blistering 60 percent from the field going 6-10. She also went 6-7 from the free throw line. Her only three-point make of the game came at the 10:47 mark in the second half, giving the Lady Tigers a 56-55 advantage.
Ayanna Hardy-Fuller led the Lady Tigers in rebounding, as she grabbed seven, to go along with nine points. Ke'ra St. John scored eight points on an efficient 4-6 shooting from the floor.
Brittney Strickland led AAMU with a 22 point effort.
The Lady Tigers led by six at halftime (40-34). Ross led JSU with 11 points and Hardy-Fuller grabbed five rebounds.
JSU returns to action Monday, Jan. 5 when the Lady Tigers face the Alabama State Lady Hornets in Montgomery, Ala.
