Pregnant woman in serious condition after Vicksburg crash


Two people, including a pregnant woman, were hospitalized after a crash in Vicksburg Saturday night.

Vicksburg Police Lieutenant Penny Jones told us the accident occurred around 8:10 p.m. Saturday on Washington Street, near Lee Street.

We were told 26-year-old Dexter Smith of Vicksburg was the driver of a truck and passengers 31-yr-old Donisha Ollie of Vicksburg, who is four months pregnant, and 22-yr-old Ronald Humes Jr. were injured. 

Humes was transported to River Region and Ollie to UMMC in Jackson.

Tom Fortner, a UMMC spokesperson, told us Ollie is listed in serious condition.

Jones also said Smith was arrested by Vicksburg PD, where he's currently in custody.

Vicksburg Police Chief Walter Armstrong said Smith faces charges of DUI, driving without a license and reckless driving.

Armstrong said Smith was headed north on Washington Street when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole. 

Armstrong added, witnesses told authorities that Smith was speeding.
