HINDS COUNTY, MS (WLBT) -

One person is dead after a one car accident on I-20 westbound.

Hinds County Sheriff's Department Spokesman Othor Cain identified the victim as 26-year-old Randell Sims of Edwards.

Fire crews responded to the westbound lane of I-20 near the Edwards exit around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Witnesses said the Pontiac G6 was fully engulfed in flames.

Cain said deputies found Sims unconscious and burning inside the vehicle.

Investigators said Sims was traveling at a high rate of speed on Askew Ferry Road when he tried to avoid a white Cutlass.

His vehicle then left the roadway, struck a tree, and ended up in the westbound lane of the interstate.
