JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Members of the homeless community were treated to a Christmas feast Saturday in Poindexter Park.

The Mississippi Racers and the Penguin Friend Foundation began around 5:30 in the morning preparing breakfast and lunch for the needy.

The groups also gave away food, goodie bags, blankets, warm clothing and toys for children.

This is the second year the Mississippi Racers have reached out to the less fortunate with their Christmas Cookout.

They hope to inspire other individuals and organizations to do more for the homeless in the metro area.

"Reach out and touch someone's life to try to get them back on track to show them that you know what everybody has a stumbling block in their life, but if they keep focus on God things will change," said Kenneth Kennedy with Mississippi Racers.

The organization provided Thanksgiving meals this year at the park and plans to feed the homeless again in the spring and summer.
