Trial for Epps and McCrory delayed until April

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A federal judge has delayed the corruption trial of a former Mississippi corrections commissioner and a businessman whose clients had contracts with the state prison system.

U.S. District Judge Henry T. Wingate set a new trial date of April 6 for former Commissioner Chris Epps and businessman Cecil McCrory.

Indictments on bribery and other charges were made public in early November, and the two men were scheduled to go on trial Jan. 5. However, their attorneys recently said they needed longer to prepare after prosecutors gave them dozens of discs of evidence against their clients. Prosecutors did not object to a later trial.

Wingate agreed to the delay Thursday, and documents showing his decision were filed into court records Friday.
