Jackson airport gets new CEO

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Members of the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority Board made the announcement Thursday in a packed room above the airport concourse.

Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport's new CEO is Carl D Newman, who currently works as the General Manager of Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston Texas.  

"I'm responsible for ensuring both airports are operated safely and run well," said Newman. "I also feel I have the responsibility to be the face of the organization, with the community, for all the community."

Newman currently oversees 700 employees at the Houston airport. Before that he spent 32 years In Phoenix's Sky Harbor International Airport.  

His first order of business, evaluate the airport, with input from the community and business leaders.

"The airport is a catch basin," said Newman. "What we need to do over time is asses what the real transportation needs are from an airport development standpoint and we'll work collaboratively with the community." 

Newman starts the job on January 2nd.    

No matter the destination, Newman promises passengers first class service.  

"Your airport is a place where great customer services is not only expected but is the norm and the staff and I along with the board intend to deliver that to you," said Newman.
