Clinton brush fire consumes several acres

CLINTON, MS (WLBT) -  A brush fire in the southern portion of Clinton, in Hinds County, had firefighters scrambling to contain it.

Clinton Fire Chief Barry Burnside, says about 5 to 10 acres near Reynolds and Leggett Roads went up in flames. Two engines, rescue units and special operations forces, using 4-wheelers, were deployed.

The cause is under investigation, but Chief Burnside has one idea that may be behind the fire.

"We did have a report," said Chief Burnside. "One of the firefighters reported a power line in the area down. Sometimes those will start a fire, so we're looking into all that."

Burnside says his department asked for assistance from the Mississippi Forestry Commission, Hinds EOC and Jackson Fire Department, for back up, while they battled the brush fire.

First responders put it out in about 30 to 45 minutes and no structures were damaged.
