JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson Public Schools is beginning to clean up some trashed 16th section land, which they own.

On Thursday we reported on the land, located on the I-55 Frontage Road between Gallatin Street and McDowell Road. It was littered with tires, twigs, trash, and even a dead dog. Nearby business owners complained about the mess.

By Saturday, one of the two lots had been cleared of trash. Tree trunks had been placed as barriers in front of a second area, and it appears that a JPS crew will return and pick up the trash on that lot.

16th section land is given to school districts, and they can lease it and benefit from the revenues. The land is not currently leased.
