Thirty-one year old Terrance Jordan is listed in critical but stable condition after being shot early Tuesday morning by Jackson Police.

Two Jackson Police officers, conducting a routine traffic stop at 3:55 a.m., stopped the Jordan on Monument Street near Lamar. Jordan's vehicle, a silver 2003 Nissan Altima, was reported stolen on October 29 of this year.As officers approached the vehicle, Jordan was ordered to raise his hands so officers could see them. The suspect refused to show his hand and began to reach for a weapon lying on the front passenger's seat.

Officers fired one shot, which struck Jordan. The vehicle came to a stop after wrecking in the 500 block of North Lamar.

Jackson Police Chief Lee Vance says the department is conducting two investigations.

“A criminal investigation and that's obviously to see whether or not any of the laws were violated by police officers while taking this particular action. The second is an internal investigation, that investigation is to see whether or not any Jackson Police Department policies were violated during the course of the officers taking action,” said Vance.

Jordan was taken to UMMC, where he underwent surgery of his wounds. When he's released from the hospital, he'll be charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Terrance Jordan has a lengthy criminal history that includes aggravated assault, possession of cocaine, domestic violence and numerous other misdemeanor charges.
