City council to make first call on Downtown Jackson baseball stadium

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - On Tuesday, Jackson City Council will vote on whether to not to approve a new study, that could eventually change the face of downtown.

The feasibility study would determine whether or not to construct a new multi-purpose collegiate baseball facility downtown.

Tim Bennett, President of Overtime Sports, will conduct the study.

Bennett most notably, negotiated the relocation of four minor league baseball teams' nationwide, is the only Minor League baseball team owner in Mississippi, developed Trustmark Park in Pearl a decade ago, and is currently in development of MGM Park on the MS Gulf Coast.

As a result, the Pearl development has generated more than $1 billion in revenue for MS, has garnered the city of Pearl the designation of 3rd best minor league baseball city in the nation and has also earned Trustmark Park a national ranking of 5th best minor league facility.

Bennett was unsuccessful in his attempts to locate Trustmark Park in Downtown Jackson 10 years ago and says he is now elated to have another opportunity to help bring prosperity to the young people of Jackson.
