Black Friday is in full swing in the metro area

Black Friday, the unofficial shopping holiday, is in full-swing!

Black Friday doesn't mean standing in line till the brink of dawn anymore.

Most retailers opened Thanksgiving night, but that didn't stop lots of shoppers from waking up early to get a hold of additional bargains.

Just about every retailer you can think of has opened its doors, offering deals early Friday morning. Northpark mall re-opened Friday morning at 6 a.m. and Best Buy re-opened at 8 a.m.

A line formed outside of Dillard's before their 8 am opening. One of the big sale items this year is purses.

"These are going to go home if we have to strap them on the back of the car," says shopper Lucille Durham-Lacy as she was sitting in a pile of dozens of purses.

She says she loves them all, especially when they're 50 percent off the discounted prices.

Durham-Lacy says, "It doesn't matter Michael Kors, Dooney and Bourke. I even have Coach. I just have all kinds of purses."

Lacy's sister, Reneva Buchanan, has a passion for purses too. She says there's a Black Friday game plan to get to the handbags first.

"We strategize. We do it every year. We have our plan mapped out and everything. I have my sister...we are in different spots and we're just going to grab it," Buchanan says.

"I was here last night and I came back this morning because I had to get my purses," Durham Lacy says. "Instead of getting one I can shift and get 2 or 3...or 10 or 20."

Another hot spot Black Friday morning was City Gear, where a limited number of the new Jordan's went on sale....but not at a Black Friday discount. The gym shoe favorites cost $185 and shoppers say they're worth it.

The Outlets of Mississippi opened at 10 on Thursday night with lots of bargains in those stores, too.

"Gap is doing 50 to 75 percent off their entire store plus some extra deals. J Crew is doing 50 percent off their entire store and Converse is doing buy one get one free shoes," said Angela Shephard with the Outlets of Mississippi.
