"Abortion free" not yet

Federal judge extends block on abortion law.

We're almost over the hump with spot showers throughout the metro on this Wednesday afternoon. I'm Howard Ballou with a look at some of the news stories you will see on WLBT.

A federal judge is continuing to block a new anti-abortion law in Mississippi. If the law were allowed to take effect, it could shut down the state's only abortion clinic and make it nearly impossible for a woman to get an abortion in Mississippi.

Plus, the young armed robbery suspect who used a fake gun in a robbery attempt at a convenience store in Brandon was in court Wednesday afternoon.

Also, Humane Society of South Mississippi officials said they could have easily been overwhelmed with the dozens of dogs brought in from an alleged puppy mill in Stone County, but that didn't happen thanks to community support.

And in national news, the Republican-led House has voted to repeal President Barack Obama's health care law. But the election-year move stands no chance in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
