Officials fired over "Cinnamon Challenge" video

Posted: Updated:

A small Mississippi Delta town has fired several officials, including its police chief.

The action comes after a video surfaced allegedly showing them encouraging a mentally challenged teenager to eat a mouthful of cinnamon.

Video captures Tutwiler Town Clerk Angela Chandler pouring a heap of hot cinnamon spice into the mouth of Demarious Cortez Martin.

You hear Martin cheered on by several people.

They have been identified as Tutwiler Police Chief Terry Tyler, Captain Jimmy Johnson, Officer Bobby Banks, Jr. and Court Clerk Latoya Ellis.

The "Cinnamon Challenge" is a stunt in which people try to swallow cinnamon without water, which dries the mouth and usually causes them to cough and spit a plume of the spice.

Tyler, Johnson, Banks, Ellis and Chandler have all been terminated.

An attorney for the teenager says the FBI did meet with his client.
