RICHLAND, MS (WLBT) -

Fire fighters in Richland were called out to a blaze Saturday afternoon.

The fire broke out around 3:45  at 431 Lowe Circle in Richland.

When fire fighters arrived on the scene, the blaze was mainly in the rear of the house. There was heavy fire and smoke damage.

Fire fighters say a woman who lived there was at home at the time of the blaze.

"There was an elderly lady that lived here. She did get out of the house. AMR had her under patient care when we arrived," said Cpt. Scott Webb, Richland Fire Department.

The woman was hospitalized due to smoke inhalation. The house was a total loss.

Fire fighters spent nearly six hours at the scene.

They say the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
