JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The Southwestern Athletic Conference has suspended Jackson State football coach Rick Comegy for one game and fined him $1,000 for inappropriate comments after Saturday's 32-30 loss to Alabama State University in Montgomery.
The SWAC action was announced Wednesday. It came on the heels of a formal reprimand from the university. JSU officials say Comegy will not appeal the sanctions.
SWAC Commission Duer Sharp says Comegy is suspended for Saturday's game at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. SWAC officials say Comegy can travel with the team but cannot be present at the facility.
The league and JSU cited Comegy for comments after the game.
Immediately following the game, Comegy told the JSU radio broadcast in a live interview: "They (expletive) cheated."
Comegy is in his fifth season as the Tigers' head coach.
