For the next six months Miss Mississippi 2010 will be getting ready for the Miss America Pageant. 20 year old Sarah Beth James is spreading the word about her platform and preparing for a homecoming celebration in Madison.
This is the moment Sarah Beth James, Miss Mississippi 2010 has been waiting for and dreaming of for the last three years.
"We're going from cloud 9, to cloud 8, to cloud 7, and making our way back down to reality", said James.
James will have to put off her college career at Mississippi State while she carries out her duties as Miss Mississippi.
"I'm a double major at Mississippi State in Public Relations and Journalism and I also have a minor in Spanish. And the difficult part about taking off for a year is going to be not speaking Spanish for a year, so I'm gonna have to work on that", James said.
45 contestants competed for the title of Miss Mississippi. We talked with James about what set her apart for the judges.
"I've always tried to be myself on stage and I've always felt that its very important to connect with the audience and connect with the judges and show them truly who you are and if who you are is supposed to be the next Miss Mississippi then that will be. And I firmly believe that, so I just went out there and had a good time", said James.
The new Miss Mississippi will continue to promote her platform of organ and tissue donation across the state and she is hopeful that she may be able to spread the word nationally as the next Miss America.
James will be spending many hours in Vicksburg as she prepares for the national pageant. She also receives a 10 thousand dollar scholarship as Miss Mississippi 2010.
