JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A Jackson teenager is the capital city's first homicide victim of 2010, losing his life on New Year's Day.
JPD Spokesman Officer Joseph Daughtry says gunfire erupted around 8:30 Friday evening striking 18-year old Marquies Thomas. He was standing in the yard of 3382 Center Street when he was shot in the leg. Investigators say Thomas and several others were gathered outside the home when suddenly gunshots were heard in the area. The teenager yelled that he had been shot.
He was taken to UMC where he later he died. Police have arrested 19-year-old Roberto Bracey of Jackson and charged him with murder.
