Alcorn State to honor McNair on Saturday

LORMAN, Miss. (AP) - Alcorn State will honor the late Steve McNair on Saturday during its first home game.

McNair finished third in Heisman Trophy voting and brought national attention to Alcorn when he played quarterback there and earned the nickname, "Air McNair" for his passing ability. He became the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL draft after his senior year.

The 36-year-old Mount Olive native was killed July 4 in a murder-suicide committed by Sahel Kazemi, in Nashville, Tenn.

The ceremony begins at 2:25 p.m. with an invitation only reception. It will be followed by a pre-game tribute at 3:38 p.m.

Kickoff for the game between Alcorn and Mississippi Valley State is 4 p.m.

The halftime show band performances will be dedicated to McNair's family.
