Metro One helps nab armed carjackers

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Armed carjackers lead police on a high speed chase through Jackson, but with the help of Metro One both are now behind bars.  Video from Metro One helicopter shows the chase near Fortification Street.

According to Jackson Police 20 year old Lamarcus Thomas and an unnamed 14 year old assaulted and stole a beige Mercury Marquis from an elderly couple.  It happened at a residence on Cliffwood Drive in south west Jackson around 10:00 last night.  Precinct 5 Commander Wendell Watts and other officers were in pursuit behind the stolen vehicle with metro one monitoring from the sky above.

"He reached a point to where he was driving aggressively and his speeds were getting excessive and the officers on the ground backed off, as they should have, knowing that metro one was over head.  And we tracked the vehicle to where he crashed," said Metro One Program Manager Andy Robinson.

Thomas and the juvenile fled the wrecked car near Fortification and Woodrow Wilson.  One of the suspects was immediately apprehended.  A second was captured after he tried to swim away in a creek.  Both are being held at the Hinds County Detention Center.
